People Power Party Representative Song Eon-seok said on the 22nd, "The Democratic Party of Korea and former leader Lee Jae-myung should apologize to the public for their pro-China attitude and cooperate in a strong response to China," urging for the revision of the espionage law.
Representative Song mentioned recent incidents such as China's installation of structures in the West Sea and the unauthorized filming of domestic air force bases by Chinese nationals. He stated, "We cannot stop China's aggressive ambitions with diplomatic passivity and pro-China lip service."
He noted, "Current Article 98 of the Criminal Code limits 'hostile states' to North Korea, making it difficult to punish acts of information gathering for China as espionage," adding, "Despite continued calls for legal amendments, the revision process is still being delayed." He continued, "There are significant concerns about whether this is because the Democratic Party, which holds an overwhelming majority in the National Assembly, is a pro-China party like former leader Lee Jae-myung, who shouted 'support for China.'"
Representative Song stated, "The reason China provokes is based on its traditional strategy of distant engagement and close attack, seizing the opportunity when diplomatic and security leadership is unstable," and added, "Currently, our political arena is full of extreme confusion as the Democratic Party carried out impeachment over 30 times, shaking the national security response system after the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol."
He asserted, "Our stance in the face of such a clear security threat is clear," stating, "Only a strong response to strong aggression can stop China's encroachment." He further noted, "What we need in our current position toward China is not mere support, but a strong will and action to protect our national sovereignty and interests."
