The Democratic Party of Korea urged the acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to suspend his duties amid rumors of his candidacy for the presidential election. In particular, he noted that the acting Prime Minister is engaging in unconstitutional and unlawful acts and expressed the intention to initiate impeachment proceedings at the National Assembly level.

Jin Sung-jun, chairman of the Democratic Party's policy committee, publicly proposed on the 22nd at a policy meeting held at the National Assembly, "I suggest that the acting Prime Minister's duties be suspended without delay," and added, "He is forgetting his duties and responsibilities to manage state affairs and elections in place of the removed president."

Jin noted, "The manager tasked with fairly and neutrally managing the election, with only 42 days remaining, is absurdly contemplating running for office," adding, "Despite the Constitutional Court's ruling that the acting Prime Minister is not the same as a president directly elected by the people, he argues that there is no difference and is abusing his powers indefinitely, including the veto power on legislation."

He emphasized, "In relation to tariff negotiations that involve immense national interests, he is attempting to sell out national interests with a subservient attitude," and warned, "If this and that concern causes us to miss the timing, we may face an irreversible situation. The party and the National Assembly must make a decisive move to immediately push for impeachment proceedings against the Prime Minister."

Acting party leader and floor leader Park Chan-dae said, "The acting Prime Minister has already revealed all the cards Korea has through conversations with Trump and foreign media interviews," and added, "I hope they will recognize that their irresponsible and reckless actions could lead to a tremendous disaster and act accordingly."

The Democratic Party has been refraining from impeachment statements against the acting Prime Minister since the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol. This is due to concerns that impeaching the acting Prime Minister, who is managing state affairs during the early presidential election process, could backfire. However, with rumors of his candidacy gaining momentum, it is interpreted that the party is now fully engaging in checks against him.

Park emphasized, "Only an overwhelming regime change is the best solution to completely suppress the insurrection," and stated, "The Democratic Party will surely end the insurrection through an overwhelming regime change together with the people."
