The OOC is an event held annually where global maritime leaders gather to discuss maritime issues and announce practical pledges.
Under the theme 'Our Ocean, Our Action,' this event will discuss six main agendas: ▲marine protected areas ▲sustainable fisheries ▲marine pollution ▲climate change ▲marine security ▲marine economy. The basic agenda 'marine digital' will also be discussed as a special agenda designated by the host country, Korea.
The government plans to announce the 'Korea Blue Action Plan,' which contains a commitment to play a leading role in global maritime cooperation, at this event.
The action plan is expected to contain more than 70 commitments, including actively playing a role in expanding global marine protected areas, discussions on converting ships to eco-friendly fuels and establishing supply chains, and promoting expanded management policies for fishing gear to reduce marine plastic pollution.
Alongside the OOC, the 5th APEC Ministerial Meeting on Ocean Affairs will also be held in Busan from the 30th of this month to the 1st of next month.
Minister Gang said, 'Through the OOC and the APEC meeting, we will fulfill our role as a responsible advanced maritime nation for sustainable oceans.'
