According to police and other sources on the 21st, the Korean National Police Agency received a request last week from Lee's camp to further enhance his personal protection.

A police official noted, "The candidate's situation has become more dangerous, so enhancement is necessary," and said, "Specifics have not yet been negotiated."

The police, which recently selected dedicated security personnel for the 6.3 presidential candidates, stated that additional security personnel could be deployed after the 25th, when personnel training and equipment preparation are completed.

The police began personal protection for the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea on the 18th of last month at the party's request. At that time, the Democratic Party revealed that several lawmakers had received text messages indicating a plan to assassinate the leader using a Russian-made pistol.
