Candidates for the People Power Party's presidential primary revealed sharp differences regarding the 12·3 emergency martial law and the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Candidate Han Dong-hoon, who is part of the "pro-impeachment faction," emphasized it was "illegal," while candidates Hong Joon-pyo, Na Kyung-won, and Lee Cheol-woo, who are part of the "anti-impeachment faction," criticized Han, saying, "He led the incitement of civil unrest and impeachment."
At a debate held on the afternoon of the 20th at Assa Art Hall in Gangseo-gu, during the People Power Party's debate among candidates Lee Cheol-woo, Na Kyung-won, Hong Joon-pyo, and Han Dong-hoon (Group B of the presidential primary), Han stated, "Even if a president produced by our party did it, I viewed the emergency martial law as illegal, and thus I took the lead in stopping it."
Han emphasized, "I oppose the martial law, but thinking of it as just a minor mistake is, in a broad sense, to defend the martial law," adding, "Either I believe the martial law itself was justified, or I think that it was wrong, and ultimately, I believe that the president who enforced it cannot carry out his duties, or one of these two options is true."
In response, Hong said, "The emergency martial law practically caused no harm. It was a two-hour incident," but added, "I suggested that the president should take political responsibility and voluntarily resign, saying it is now difficult to govern any longer."
Na stated, "I believe that Han caused this situation by leading the incitement of civil unrest impeachment," and pointed out, "It is really regrettable that he was at the forefront of inciting civil unrest while claiming, 'The president confessed to civil unrest.'"
Lee also rebutted, stating, "Does Han have the right to say such things now? The fact that he is running as a candidate in our party's presidential primary is itself wrong," and asked, "What civil unrest is the president talking about?"
Additionally, the four candidates' Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality types were all different, attracting attention. Of the four candidates who attended the A group debate the previous day, three introduced themselves as ENTJ (bold leaders).
Han introduced himself as an ENTJ (bold leader).
He said, "I registered as a candidate for the primary and tried it two or three times, but each time I got different results," and noted, "I chose the one I wanted to be the most among those that came out."
Han opened by saying he would try to create an acrostic with ENTJ, stating, "(E) Let's gather energy, (N) I will be the navigation for the people, (T) Trust is needed, (J) Let's create a just country."
Na stated that her MBTI is ENFJ (just mediator). She said, "With a strong sense of responsibility and unwavering mission, I have never backed down in protecting liberal democracy, market economy, and constitutional values." She added, "People say that I have integrity, and I, Na Kyung-won, who is precise and has integrity, will protect the citizens."
Hong said he identifies as an ESTJ (strict administrator) and emphasized, "To navigate a chaotic era properly, one needs experience, strength, insight, and wisdom," while Lee introduced himself as an ESFJ (sociable diplomat).
