On the 20th, Acting President Han Duck-soo, the Prime Minister, attended an Easter union service held at Myungsung Church in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, a popular spot among prominent politicians. This visit attracted attention due to speculation about its connection to his presidential ambitions.
That day, Acting President Han attended the service alone without any aides, while several prominent figures, including Kim Sam-hwan, the senior pastor of Myungsung Church, Cho Sung-ki, the chairman of Cyber University of Soongsil, and Ahn Joo-hun, the president of Daejeon Theology University, were seated in the front row.
Myungsung Church is known as a so-called 'must-visit course' for major presidential contenders. In 2022, former President Yoon Suk-yeol attended a service there while he was a candidate, and in 2017, former lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo, who was then the presidential candidate for the Liberty Korea Party, also visited. This year, Kim Dong-yeon from the Democratic Party of Korea and Na Kyung-won from the People Power Party, both presidential primary candidates, visited the church on the 6th and 13th, respectively.
An official from the Prime Minister's Office noted that Acting President Han's visit this time is known as a place he often attends for services, and he distanced the visit from any political intention.
Meanwhile, that afternoon, Acting President Han delivered a congratulatory message through Minister Yoo In-chon at the union service commemorating the 140th anniversary of Korean Christian Mission, held at Kanglim Church. In his message, he stated, 'The government will do its best to unite the national strength based on the spirit of integration and coexistence.'
