The think tank of Democratic Party of Korea presidential primary candidate Lee Jae-myung, 'Growth and Integration' will unveil technical and financial measures to materialize 'AI government' on the 28th. This is to implement the candidate's policy catchphrase 'AI (Artificial Intelligence) government.' It is believed that the success of economic growth depends on the utilization of AI technology. The key points are the AI transformation of the manufacturing industry and the establishment of a state-led 'preliminary fund' to support finances.
Heo Min, co-chairperson of Growth and Integration, said on the 18th, "To realize an AI government, diverse policies are needed, including AI technology specialists and investment fields that can create growth engines." He noted, "We are discussing growth engines for AI from various angles," adding that "we are currently reviewing ways to collect and select ideas from each area and propose them at a policy forum."
The theme of the policy forum scheduled for the 28th is 'AI government.' The fields are broadly divided into 'AI technology' and 'financial planning,' with five sub-topics. Among the 34 subcommittees of Growth and Integration, the ▲AI subcommittee, ▲Finance subcommittee, and ▲Fiscal Taxation subcommittee will collaborate. Jang Byeong-tak, the director of Seoul National University AI Research Institute, regarded as a top authority in AI, and Professor Kim Jun-ha from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology will lead the technology sector.
Director Jang is the founder of the logistics automation AI platform 'Tomorrow Robotics.' He has also been active in the 'K-Humanoid Alliance' led by the Ministry of Industry. This is a large-scale cooperative body involving humanoid specialists and corporations. Professor Kim is a former head of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Division under the Gwangju Information Culture Industry Promotion Agency. He also served as the inaugural dean of the GIST 'AI Policy Strategy Graduate School,' the first of its kind established in the country.
The roadmap for the 'preliminary fund' in the AI sector will also be revealed at this forum. It materializes the 'K-NVIDIA' mentioned by the candidate. Kim Kwang-soo, chairperson of the Finance subcommittee and a former chairman of the Federation of Korean Banks, is leading this effort. Former Vice Minister Gu Yoon-cheol, co-chairperson of the Fiscal Taxation subcommittee, and Professor Kang Byeong-gu of Inha University will handle the policy design work. Former Vice Minister Lee Eok-kyun is also developing funding measures.
The Lee Jae-myung camp's policy headquarters is also in communication. According to the comprehensive coverage by ChosunBiz, Growth and Integration recently delivered the '100 major policy proposals' compiled from 34 subcommittees to Yoon Hu-deok, the head of the policy headquarters. It is said that this includes plans to establish state-led funds in various fields, including AI, health bio, K-content, and K-defense. The policy headquarters intends to report back to the candidate after a selection process.
An official from Growth and Integration stated, "We plan to address finances, specifically in the financial and investment sectors that will support AI technology development and automation, at the forum," adding, "We are working with individuals who have policy design experience by subdividing the finance subcommittee." An official from the Lee Jae-myung camp's policy headquarters also noted, "When 'Growth and Integration' receives policy proposals from various sectors, we collect them and communicate with the policy headquarters."
