The "partial amendment bill on the establishment and operation of the Korea Communications Commission" (KCC bill amendment), which stipulated the minimum quorum for meetings of the Korea Communications Commission at three members, was rejected and automatically discarded in a re-vote at the National Assembly on the 17th.
In the re-vote, the KCC bill amendment was rejected with 192 votes in favor, 104 against, and 3 invalid votes out of a total of 299 votes. To be approved, a bill in the re-vote must receive a majority of its registered members in attendance, with at least two-thirds of attending members voting in favor.
The bill included a provision to establish the minimum quorum for meetings of the KCC at three members, with a decision requiring a majority of the attending members. With its rejection on that day, the two-person system of Jin-sook Lee and Tae-kyu Kim will remain in place.
Earlier, it passed the National Assembly plenary session under opposition leadership, but on the 18th of last month, then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Sang-mok Choi exercised the veto right.
