The legal team of former President Yoon Suk-yeol announced on the 17th that it will postpone plans to establish the "Yoon Again" new party. A scheduled press conference will also not be held.
Attorneys Bae Ui-cheol and Kim Gye-ri, who were part of the representatives in the impeachment trial of the former president, issued a statement that evening, stating, "We will defer the press conference to propose the formation of the Yoon Again new party."
Earlier, attorney Bae announced in an online briefing that "five lawyers belonging to the presidential legal team would hold a press conference regarding the new party on the 18th."
They noted, "For over ten days since the decision on impeachment, we have met with numerous civic groups in the free camp to gather opinions," and added, "The five young lawyers from the presidential legal team aimed to propose the Yoon Again new party to encompass the public's aspirations."
They further stated, "However, we judged that formalizing this at a press conference might lead to various misunderstandings regarding the former president's intentions and influence during this early election phase, making it inappropriate to proceed with this on the record."
In particular, they expressed, "I feel frustrated," adding, "There has been relentless pressure from the People Power Party today." This suggests that the People Power Party has conveyed a negative response regarding the new party's establishment.
They said, "We do not want to burden the president or be a nuisance," and emphasized, "It is not true that it reflects the president's intentions, as suggested in political circles and the media." They continued, "Given the excessive misunderstandings and speculations regarding tomorrow's press conference, which may burden the president, we will temporarily defer the press conference according to the president's wishes."
Meanwhile, as news emerged that the former president plans to establish a new party, attention in the political arena intensified.
In response, attorney Yoon Gap-geun, the legal representative for the former president, clarified, "The youths who opposed the former president's impeachment are said to inherit the president's spirit, but the former president will not join as a member or be directly involved."
