Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, a candidate in the People Power Party's presidential primary, asserted on the 15th that "the president must return to the Blue House."
On the same day, Hong, at the 'Sunjin Vision Presentation' held at his office in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, stated, "The Blue House is a symbol of national dignity and the country."
Hong added, "Is it appropriate for the president to control traffic while commuting? Even if he returns to the Blue House, we can set the security area to a minimum."
Regarding the discussion of the transfer of the presidential office to Sejong City, Hong replied, "The office can be established in Daegu, Busan, or Daejeon, but what does it have to do with the relocation of the Blue House?" and noted, "The transfer of the Blue House and the capital has been ruled unconstitutional."
Hong also promised to push for a constitutional amendment that includes the introduction of a four-year term limit and a bicameral National Assembly, stating, "Immediately after the establishment of the government, I will set up a constitutional amendment promotion team under the president to start with the amendment."
He said, "If the 22nd presidential election in 2030 and the 10th local election are held simultaneously, the National Assembly election will be held two years later," and added, "It would be great if we could hold a public referendum for the constitutional amendment during next year's local election."
He continued, "I will abolish the Constitutional Court and establish a constitutional tribunal within the Supreme Court," and pointed out, "The Constitutional Court has failed to maintain political neutrality and has fallen into a political judicial institution. It is a reality that even those who deny the national system become constitutional judges."
Hong stated, "The National Election Commission has caused too many problems, and I will perform major surgery on it," promising to enact a public opinion survey law to ensure fair public opinions are conveyed to the people, and to prohibit the announcement of surveys with a response rate of less than 10%."
Hong also expressed his intention to restore politics through new impartiality, asserting, "I will not discriminate between ruling and opposition parties in the appointment of talent. I will prioritize national interests and create a government that embraces both the left and the right."
He emphasized, "I will abolish the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, which has become a problem due to political bias, and instead monitor power-based corruption through a special inspector system."
He also mentioned plans to establish a 'Future Strategy Institute' that will set the national mid- to long-term development strategy. Hong explained, "I will merge 18 government ministries into 13 to 14 to create a smaller and more efficient government."
