The People Power Party's candidate election management committee announced on the 14th that it will adjust the initial round of group debates from three to two.
This is interpreted as a response to observations that the number of registered candidates will remain around 10 due to the withdrawal of prominent candidates such as Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min from the party primary.
As scenarios emerge that a so-called 'centrist third space big tent' could be formed under the banners of 'non-Lee Jae-myung' and 'anti-Yoon Seok-yeol' to prevent a runaway by former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, it seems to have also affected the momentum of the People Power Party's primary.
The election management committee held its third non-face-to-face meeting that day, announcing that it will add a candidate vision conference on the 18th and proceed with the debates divided only into Group A on the 19th and Group B on the 20th. The committee had initially planned to hold debates for Groups A, B, and C from the 18th to the 20th.
The People Power Party is accepting candidate registrations until the 15th. As of the 14th, the candidates registered for the primary include Representative Ahn Cheol-soo, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, and former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, among four individuals.
