Rep. Lee Jun-seok of the Reform Party recorded double-digit approval ratings in a three-way showdown against former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung and candidates from the People Power Party, according to a poll.
Rep. Lee said, “I will not pay attention to those who have shattered trust in the nation and politics by engaging in political engineering, such as unification,” emphasizing his commitment to completing the presidential race.
A poll commissioned by Segye Ilbo and conducted by Korea Gallup from Oct. 10 to 11 among 1,020 adults nationwide showed that in a hypothetical three-way match involving the former leader, former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, and Rep. Lee, the former leader received 45%, former Minister Kim received 29%, and Rep. Lee attained 14% support.
Rep. Lee also showed double-digit approval ratings in surveys against other potential candidates from the People Power Party. In a three-way contest involving the former leader, former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, and Rep. Lee, the former leader received 44%, former Mayor Hong 29%, and Rep. Lee 11%. If former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon enters the race, the former leader received 45%, former leader Han 25%, and Rep. Lee 11%.
Rep. Lee referred to the 19% approval rating from the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province (TK) region, known as the 'heart of conservatism,' stating, “As expected, TK will be at the forefront of change.”
Rep. Lee has been making broad strides, visiting the Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province region four times over a week starting from the 7th. He has been greeting people on his commute while wearing a placard that reads, “Please let Daegu lead the change,” and on the 13th, he participated in a 5 km marathon organized by a local media outlet and completed the race.
Rep. Lee also continued to greet people on his commute in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, on the morning of the 14th.
