Na Kyung-won, a People Power Party lawmaker, urged Kang Duck-soo, the acting Prime Minister whose candidacy speculation has arisen, to focus on his role as acting prime minister. She also stressed the need for unity instead of division in response to former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min's announcement of his non-participation in the party's primary.
On the afternoon of the 13th, Na Kyung-won visited the Lee Hwa Residence in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and stated, “The responsibilities that acting Prime Minister Kang must fulfill at this time are extremely significant,” adding, “Given that we are currently without a president, I request that he concentrate on his role as acting prime minister and take the lead in resolving these issues amid the tariff war.”
Within the People Power Party, the so-called 'candidacy speculation for Kang Duck-soo' is emerging. Lawmaker Seong Il-jong said on Facebook that “acting Prime Minister Kang should not ignore the demands of the times,” noting that “many of our party's lawmakers have urged him to run.” However, those officially declaring their candidacy for the presidential election within the People Power Party are opposing this.
Regarding Yoo's declaration of non-participation in the primary, Na Kyung-won commented, “Without an anti-selection clause, the candidate for the People Power Party will not be elected, but rather the opposing camp’s candidate will be selected,” adding, “It is very unfortunate to pass up the opportunity based on this issue.”
She also remarked, “Former lawmaker Yoo will not wish for Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party to win,” emphasizing that “politics that unite all the people, a politics of integration, is necessary. If we continue to divide, we can never achieve victory.”
Na Kyung-won visited the Lee Hwa Residence, the former home of President Syngman Rhee. Accompanying her were Mrs. Cho Hye-ja, the daughter-in-law of the former president, and former lawmaker Lee Young-il, who participated in the April 19 Revolution.
Na stated, “When I announced my candidacy, I said that this presidential election must be one that protects liberal democracy,” and added, “Through this election, our Republic of Korea must elevate the constitutional values of Korea to a higher level aligned with the world's constitutional values.”
