Amid rising prices, the Fair Trade Commission plans to investigate whether there have been collusion or unfair practices in price increases by the food industry.

According to the Fair Trade Commission on the 7th, Chairperson Han Ki-jung instructed during a morning extended executive meeting to "thoroughly monitor whether there is anything arising from collusion or unfair practices."

Chairperson Han shared the directives from the emergency cabinet meeting and economic ministers’ meeting held after the removal of former President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 4th with the executives.

Chairperson Han said, "There was a mention that, due to the recent rise in prices, it is difficult and tough for the public, and that the Fair Trade Commission should be aware whether the price increases in the food industry are due to collusion or other reasons."

According to the Statistics Korea, the price increase rate of processed foods last month was 3.6%, marking the highest level in 15 months since December 2023 (4.2%). In particular, the increase in the prices of certain items such as kimchi, coffee, bread, and ham has been shown to raise the overall consumer price index.

Chairperson Han urged, "Please diligently carry out the planned tasks to ensure there are no gaps in state affairs, maintain political neutrality, and strengthen public service discipline."
