Ahead of the early presidential election taking place following the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, the internal dynamics of the People Power Party are grappling with strategies for responding to the political situation, while the pro-Han Dong-hoon faction has raised its voice, stating, "The only leader who can overcome this crisis is Han Dong-hoon."
Kim Jong-hyuk, a former senior committee member of the People Power Party from the pro-Han faction, posted on his Facebook page in the morning, "South Korea is at a critical crossroads. The regime has collapsed, politics is shaken, the economy is bleak, and public trust has hit rock bottom. Now, we are not just being asked for a simple change of government, but we are called to a reset of the nation and a change of the era," and noted, "The only leader who can overcome this crisis is Han Dong-hoon."
He emphasized that regarding the former representative Han, "He is the person who prevented martial law and defended the constitution," adding, "In a moment of national crisis, Han Dong-hoon resisted warnings to escape and led the motion to lift martial law in the National Assembly's main chamber. He was the representative of the ruling party but chose the people over power and took the lead in lifting martial law to protect liberal democracy."
He further noted, "In the face of a regime that has become estranged from the public due to the controversies surrounding Kim Keon-hee, the push for healthcare reform, and cuts to research and development budgets, Han Dong-hoon spoke frankly in line with the belief that 'the people come first.' As a result, he faced attacks and suffering, but he did not retreat or compromise."
He also emphasized that he is a figure who can stand against Lee Jae-myung, a strong presidential candidate from the opposition camp. Kim noted, "He is a capable candidate who can crush Lee Jae-myung based on policies and a vision for the future in the presidential debates," asserting, "The clean and unblemished candidate who would clearly contrast with Lee Jae-myung's judicial risks is none other than Han Dong-hoon."
He added, "If we are ignored by the centrist block, the election will be futile. When we choose a candidate with expansion potential, Han Dong-hoon, the conservatives can finally harbor hopes for victory in the election instead of despair," referring to him as "the only expandable candidate from the center, metropolitan area, and youth. "
Kim also stated, "This election is not merely about the victory of a specific political party, but about electing someone who can restore the constitutional order beyond left and right," and after mentioning the former representative's proposal for constitutional amendment, he emphasized, "Through the simultaneous conduct of the four-year term constitutional amendment and presidential and National Assembly elections, South Korea will establish a new political order and leap forward towards the future. Such dedication will be shown by Han Dong-hoon."
Earlier, former Representative Han proposed to amend the constitution to establish a four-year term presidency but suggested shortening the term of the next president to three years to align with the 2028 presidential and general election terms.
