The Democratic Party of Korea urged acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to promptly finalize the presidential election schedule.
Democratic Party of Korea floor spokesperson Noh Jong-myeon noted in a written briefing on the 5th, “The Prime Minister must swiftly announce the presidential election date,” adding, “No matter how late, the announcement should be made by Tuesday (8th), when the Cabinet meeting will take place.”
The Constitution stipulates that an election to choose a successor president must be held within 60 days after the president’s vacancy. According to the Public Official Election Act, the acting president must announce the election date at least 50 days prior to the election. Considering this, the acting prime minister must designate the election date by the 14th.
Noh, the floor spokesperson, pointed out, “The Prime Minister must sincerely apologize to the public in the first Cabinet meeting after the dismissal of Yoon Suk-yeol and submit a supplementary budget plan,” adding, “If the head of the executive branch was dismissed for causing chaos in the entire country, the first remarks of the person acting in their role should have been an apology. He should also feel responsible for the prolonged unrest and the government’s incompetence, which have led to the severe decline of people's livelihoods and the economy.”
He added, “The Prime Minister must immediately accept the resignations of the presidential office aides,” noting, “Since the instigator of the unrest, Yoon Suk-yeol, has been dismissed, it is only common sense and a public demand that his aides share the same fate.”
