Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Mun-soo said on the 5th regarding the dismissal of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, "Is it right for a few members of the National Assembly to betray and join the opposition party, surpassing 200 seats, and then for a few Constitutional Court judges to join forces to dismiss a president elected by the people?" He also noted regarding the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss former President Yoon Suk-yeol following former President Park Geun-hye, "I question whether this is compatible with democracy."
This can be interpreted as suggesting that the impeachment trial should be decided by a public vote. He also mentioned the need for constitutional amendments related to the president's dismissal. Since he is currently a cabinet member and considered the top candidate from the conservative camp, controversy is expected.
On that day, Kim met with supporters who requested his candidacy for the presidential election at a location in Seoul. At this meeting, he said, "The people elected former Presidents Park Geun-hye and Yoon, so we need to think about whether it is democratic for the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court to decide on their dismissal."
Kim asked, "Is the Constitutional Court left with no choice but to decide this way?" and stated that constitutional provisions related to presidential impeachment should be changed. He added, "If there are problems with the constitution based on the sacrifices and aspirations shown by the people when asking to end military dictatorship, then we should correct what needs to be corrected," and said, "It should be enough for a few people to gather to dismiss a president elected by the people twice, and we should not let it happen three times."
He also made remarks suggesting a presidential candidacy. Kim stated, "I have no greed at all," but added, "But isn't this country going in the wrong direction?" According to political circles, it is reported that Kim will resign from his ministerial position and declare his candidacy as early as the 8th. That day is scheduled for a cabinet meeting. It is expected that he will express his intention to resign at the cabinet meeting and proceed with the application for reinstatement in the People Power Party and other related procedures for his candidacy.
