Kim Jong Un, the Chairperson of North Korea, emphasized readiness for battle during an inspection of special operations training on the day before the decision on former President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment was finalized, according to the Korean Central News Agency on May 5.
According to the report, the Chairperson visited the training base of the People’s Army special operations forces and guided comprehensive training, noting that “completion of battle readiness is the utmost patriotism and loyalty to the state and the people,” while emphasizing the importance of robust ideological training. The Chairperson received a welcome report from military commanders and observed comprehensive tactical drills and sniper weapon shooting competitions conducted by various special operations force combatants.
The agency reported that this training was conducted to continuously explore and apply new tactics and methodologies tailored to the evolving aspects of modern warfare and to master practical combat training processes.
The Chairperson stated that “the practical ability to guarantee victory in war is forged through intense training” and noted, “The core goal of military construction is to make all personnel become one body, united in one ideology and one will to fight as a strong military.” He further remarked, “Strengthening special operations forces is a major component of our current military construction strategy.”
The agency reported that the Chairperson outlined important tasks to enhance special operations capabilities, but did not mention specific details.
During the training inspection, the Chairperson guided soldiers in automatic rifle shooting training and sniper rifle training, and also personally conducted test firing of the newly developed sniper rifle.
