In the re-election for the mayor of Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, held on the 2nd, the Democratic Party candidate Oh Se-hyun was elected.
According to the Central Election Management Commission's counting status, as of 12:27 a.m. on the 3rd, the voter turnout rate is 87.08%. Among them, candidate Oh confirmed victory with a vote rate of 58.71% (58,683 votes). The vote rate for the second-place candidate Jeon Man-gwon of the People's Power is 38.78% (38,771 votes).
After graduating from Cheonan Central High School and Kyunghee University with a degree in political science and diplomacy, candidate Oh entered public service through the local examination (2nd round). He served as the Director General for Policy Planning in Chungcheongnam-do, the Director of the Bureau of Welfare and Health, and the deputy mayor of Asan before serving as the elected mayor of Asan in the 7th term.
Candidate Oh was defeated in the 2022 local elections, losing to former mayor Park Kyung-ki of the People's Power. However, after Park was dismissed due to allegations of violating the Public Official Election Act (spreading false information), Oh received a re-election opportunity and regained the mayoral position after three years. Oh was also a victim of the false information spread by former Mayor Park.
