A former aide, identified as A, who filed a sexual assault complaint against former People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, has released a video that supports the claims. Kim Jae-ryun, a lawyer representing A from the law firm Onsesang, noted in a press release that evidence materials, including the video, were submitted to the police on the 31st.
According to A's side, the video includes situations where former lawmaker Jang calls A's name and asks for water, attempts to engage in indecent behavior, and A responding with a choked voice. Multiple short videos, lasting 1 to 2 minutes, were filmed, with Jang's face not appearing but his voice and figure recorded.
Additionally, on the day of the incident, evidence was collected using an emergency kit after consulting at the Sunflower Center, and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation reported that male genetic material was detected on A's body and underwear. The police, having received A's counseling records and appraisal reports, reportedly requested a voluntary DNA submission during Jang's questioning.
A's side stated, "The fear of Jang's immense power and the fear of facing the situation that follows the sexual assault report prevented us from filing a criminal complaint, leading to nearly 9 years of painful times," and added, "We have reached the decision to file a complaint to prevent the victim's life from deteriorating further and to seek a strict judgment under the law."
A's side added, "What former lawmaker Jang should do is acknowledge his wrongdoing and properly apologize to the victim." A's side plans to hold a press conference on the morning of the 1st at 10 a.m. to explain the circumstances of the complaint. However, A will not attend the event.
Jang, who served as a three-term lawmaker, was accused of sexual assault (quasi-rape injury) against his aide A in November 2015 while he was the vice president of a university in Busan. Jang's side has consistently denied the allegations of sexual assault that A has claimed, and it has been reported that he fully denied the charges during a police summons on the 28th.
