The adjustment plan of the 11th basic power supply and demand plan, which reduces the number of new construction plans for nuclear power plants from 4 to 3, is expected to be virtually confirmed after being reported to the National Assembly on the 19th.
According to the National Assembly, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (hereafter referred to as the Ministry) will hold a plenary meeting on this day to receive the report on the 11th basic power supply and demand plan established by the Ministry.
The basic power supply and demand plan is a long-term energy policy that contains domestic power generation facility plans for the next 15 years. It is established by the Ministry every two years. The 11th basic plan, which includes plans from last year until 2038, will be virtually confirmed once it finishes reporting to the National Assembly. The subsequent procedure will only require deliberation by the power policy review committee under the Ministry. The Ministry is said to have convened the power policy review committee on the 21st.
The 11th basic power supply and demand plan, which will be reported to the National Assembly, is known to be an adjustment plan that reduces the number of nuclear power plants in the new construction plan from 4 to 3 and increases renewable energy generation accordingly.
Once the basic power supply and demand plan is confirmed, procedures such as the construction of nuclear power and pumped storage power plants, as well as the establishment of energy storage systems (ESS) centered in the Honam region, are expected to begin immediately.
