The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 19th that it will invest 42.5 billion won in the 'National Standard Technology Improvement Project' (hereinafter referred to as the Technology Project) this year. This represents a 22% increase compared to last year's budget (34.9 billion won).

The Technology Project refers to a representative inter-ministerial standard research and development initiative that develops and proposes our technology as international standards, such as with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and supports the discovery and response of standard policies.

In May last year, the National Standards Agency announced the 'Advanced Industry National Standardization Strategy,' which includes a roadmap for developing international standards in advanced fields that will lead the future. Fields selected for advanced industries include semiconductors, displays, secondary batteries, artificial intelligence, future vehicles, future ships, robotics, advanced manufacturing, quantum, key materials, nuclear power, and clean energy (hydrogen, Taeyang, wind power), totaling 12 areas.

The National Standards Agency plans to focus on supporting 12 advanced industry sectors that urgently require international standardization, investing 11.7 billion won in new projects this year for areas such as AI and semiconductors.

Standardization support for inter-ministerial foundational industries such as medical and environmental fields will also be carried out. Existing ongoing projects aimed at future industries, such as carbon-free energy and carbon neutrality (30.8 billion won), will be continuously promoted.

Oh Kwang-hae, the director of the Standard Policy Bureau at the National Standards Agency, said, "We will create an environment where excellent researchers can continuously participate in standard research and development," adding, "We will actively assist our corporations in entering global new markets through the leading development of international standards in advanced fields."
