After six months of the implementation of the 'dog meat prohibition law' (special law regarding the termination of breeding, slaughter, and distribution of dogs for consumption), it has been found that 4 out of 10 dog breeding farms have closed.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 9th that 623 out of a total of 1,537 dog breeding farms, or 40%, have shut down. The ministry expects that the closure rate will rise to about 60% by the end of this year.

It has been revealed that not only small farms (those with fewer than 300 heads) find it relatively easy to close, but also medium and large farms actively participated in early closures. Of the 538 medium and large farms (those with more than 300 heads), 32% (174 farms) have completed closure, while 60% (325 farms) plan to close by the end of this year. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs noted, 'The termination of dog meat consumption will proceed without significant setbacks.'

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to support closures in cooperation with local governments and provide business consulting services. The ministry aims to encourage ongoing early closures even for farms excluded from support due to violations of relevant laws.
