Cho Joowan, CEO of LG Electronics, emphasized collaboration between the two companies by presenting a replica of the A-501, the first radio in Korea, to Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm. The A-501 radio is a vacuum tube radio made in 1959 by LG Electronics' predecessor, Geumseongsa, and is designated as a registered cultural property.
According to industry sources on the 22nd, Amon posted a photo holding LG Electronics' A-501 radio on social media (SNS) platform LINKED. He noted, “I received a meaningful gift from CEO Cho Joowan to commemorate Qualcomm’s 40th anniversary,” adding, “Thanking CEO Cho, the A-501 symbolizes our shared commitment to shaping the future of technology together.”
CEO Cho commented, saying, “In commemorating Qualcomm’s 40th anniversary, I prepared a special gift that reflects not only congratulations but also our desire to honor the new beginning of our two companies.” He continued, “The A-501 reminds us of where LG Electronics' vision, determination, and pioneering spirit began, and I believe this mindset will lead both LG Electronics and Qualcomm to develop further. Let’s break down barriers and move forward together.”
LG Electronics and Qualcomm jointly showcased the ‘xDC platform,’ which can integrate and control vehicle infotainment systems (IVI) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) from a single chip, at ‘CES 2025,’ the world’s largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, last January.
Previously, the two CEOs met in July of last year at LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, to share a blueprint for AI collaboration between the two companies. LG Electronics has maintained a collaborative relationship with Qualcomm since its mobile business (MC division).
LG Electronics has gifted its heritage, including the A-501 replica radio, to its major partners, embodying LG Electronics' philosophy. In March, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft (MS), shared a photo of himself receiving the A-501 on LINKED. After meeting Nadella, CEO Cho announced, “We have decided to supply LG Electronics' ultra-large chiller for the data center being built by MS.”
