The wireless charging speed for smartphones, earphones, and in-vehicle devices is expected to increase by up to three times.
On the 17th, Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) noted that it has begun certification for the new wireless charging standard ‘Qi v2.2.1,’ which enhances the existing 15W charging power to 25W, in collaboration with the international power transmission standard organization WPC.
WPC is an international standard organization for wireless power transmission that involves 350 companies, including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Apple, and Philips.
With the new standard applied, the time required to wirelessly fully charge a smartphone will decrease from 2 hours to about 40 minutes.
So far, 12 wireless charging corporations and 15 products have passed the tests for the new standard and are awaiting final certification at the end of this month.
Among the Korean corporations, BH is the only one that has met the certification criteria for in-vehicle wireless chargers and is awaiting the new standard certification.
