“We are steadily preparing for the Exynos 2600 following the Exynos 2500.”
Park Yong-in, head of the System LSI Division at Samsung Electronics, met with reporters ahead of the ‘Young Festival’ mentoring event for nurturing future engineering talents, held on Nov. 11 at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul, and said, “There will be good results.”
The Exynos 2500 is Samsung Electronics' latest mobile application processor (AP), which was fully equipped in the foldable smartphone ‘Galaxy Z Flip 7,’ launched the previous day. The System LSI of the institutional sector responsible for the semiconductor business designed it, and Samsung Foundry mass-produced it using the cutting-edge Gate-All-Around (GAA) based 3-nanometer (㎚·1㎚=1 billionth of a meter) process.
The smartphone AP, which acts as the brain of a smartphone, is the Exynos 2500, the first smartphone AP that Samsung has made using the 3-nanometer process. The industry analysis indicates that the future success of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will also impact the performance improvement of the System LSI and the development and release of the next-generation Exynos.
There are projections that the Exynos 2600, which is scheduled for mass production using the 2-nanometer process by the end of this year, will be equipped in the Galaxy S26, which will be launched early next year. In response, Park said, “Whether the Exynos 2600 will be adopted is up to our clients,” and declined to comment further.
Park also noted that regarding the management diagnosis of the System LSI Division, initiated by Samsung Global Research's Management Diagnosis Office earlier this year, “I am still waiting for the (results),” adding that “it is difficult to predict (organizational restructuring at the end of the year, etc.).”
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics announced on Nov. 8 that its revenue and operating profit for the second quarter of this year were provisionally estimated at 74 trillion won and 4.6 trillion won, respectively. Compared to a year ago, operating profit decreased by 55.94%. Samsung Electronics will announce its confirmed results on the 31st of this month.
