Naver Webtoon officially sponsored and cartoonist Lee Hyun-se hosted the '2025 Lee Hyun-se Cartoon Creation Camp,' which concluded its 10-day, 11-night schedule on the 10th, as announced on the 11th.
The 'Lee Hyun-se Cartoon Creation Camp' is a program where aspiring creators dreaming of becoming webtoon authors complete a short cartoon. It began in 2001 under the leadership of Professor Emeritus Lee Doo-ho of Sejong University, and since 2014, Naver Webtoon has participated as an official sponsor. Having supported the camp for the ninth consecutive year, Naver Webtoon provided full participation fees to offer substantial creative opportunities.
This year's camp took place from June 30 to July 10 at the KOBACO training center in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province, with a total of 125 participants, including 96 university students and best challenge authors along with mentor authors and staff. Participants focused on completing their short works during the residential camp.
Participants noted that "the biggest advantage of the camp is the environment where one can concentrate solely on work," and said it was significant to finish projects that usually take more than a month in a short time. They also expressed that interaction with various creators was motivating.
Mentors, including authors Lee Hyun-se and Lee Doo-ho, provided practical feedback during the camp. On the last day, an exhibition of the participants' works was held, and outstanding pieces are expected to be published through Naver Webtoon's short series.
Cartoonist Lim Ri-na, who visited the exhibition, said, "I recalled my experience participating in this camp in the past, and since that experience was the starting point that made me who I am now, I hope this opportunity helps the current participants solidify their dreams."
Cartoonist Lee Hyun-se stated, "I hope they were able to experience how precious the time spent facing oneself is as a creator," adding, "I hope this camp serves as a growth opportunity for aspiring authors."
Lee Jeong-geun, Deputy Minister of Naver Webtoon, said, "It was meaningful to be part of the creation camp this year as well," and added, "We will continue to support aspiring authors so they can unfold their own stories."
