Lee Jae-yong, chairman of Samsung Electronics, will attend the 'Sun Valley Conference,' a social gathering of global business giants.
According to the business community on the 9th, Chairman Lee has reportedly arrived locally to attend the event, which will be held from the 9th to the 13th (local time) at the Sun Valley Resort in Idaho, USA.
This event is an international business conference hosted by the U.S. investment bank Allen & Company every early July since 1983, officially named the 'Allen & Company Conference.' Although it is a closed event, it is often referred to as a 'billionaire social club' due to the participation of global media and IT industry leaders.
This year's event will be attended by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, founder Jeff Bezos, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
As Samsung Electronics faces difficulties such as sluggish semiconductor business, there are expectations that Chairman Lee will intensify his global management activities at this event. He has attended this event since 2002, when he was an executive at Samsung Electronics, building networks with global leaders. In particular, in 2014, he met with CEO Cook, after which Samsung Electronics and Apple withdrew their smartphone patent lawsuits outside the U.S.
However, it has been reported that Chairman Lee has been unable to attend the event since 2017 due to the investigation, trial, and imprisonment related to the political scandal. He, who was acquitted in both the first and second trials on charges of unfair merger and accounting fraud, is facing the final judgment of the Supreme Court on the 17th.
