SK Telecom has launched a 'penalty refund inquiry' service for customers who canceled their contracts due to a hacking incident.
According to the telecommunications industry on the 6th, SK Telecom has opened and is operating a 'refund inquiry page' since the previous day. The application schedule for the penalty refund will be available from the 15th. The company plans to pay the refund amount to the accounts that apply within 7 days from the refund application date.
SK Telecom set April 18 as the cutoff date for penalty exemptions, prior to the incident. The company will exempt penalties for those customers who were under contract at that time and canceled due to the incident. Customers who cancel by July 14 will also not be charged penalties.
New customers who entered into a new contract, changed devices, or re-signed after midnight on April 19, or those who re-signed after canceling during the relevant period will be excluded from the penalty refund eligibility. Special purpose Internet of Things (IoT) lines and lines that were canceled by authority will also be excluded from the refund eligibility.
A penalty refers to the amount to be returned if a contract is prematurely terminated during the contract period, which includes all or part of the discount benefits received. This includes the return of device support funds or select contract discounts. Device installment payments are for the payment made for purchasing the device itself in installments and are therefore not subject to penalty exemptions, as they constitute a separate purchase contract from the telecommunications service agreement.
