The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 6th that it will hold the first regular meeting in 2025 of ABLE, a 'blockchain demand and supply consortium', in conjunction with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
The upcoming regular meeting of ABLE, scheduled for the 9th at the Dragon City Rendezvous Hall in Seoul, will discuss topics such as ▲ the activation of stablecoins due to the inauguration of Donald Trump's second U.S. administration and ▲ the implementation of the 'Virtual Asset Market Act' (MICA), the first comprehensive regulation on digital assets by the European Union (EU), reflecting the changing market conditions. As discussions on domestic digital asset legislation are also taking place, the aim is for public and private sectors to collaborate on strategies to enhance the competitiveness of the industry.
Since its launch in December 2022, ABLE has held a total of five regular meetings. The theme for this regular meeting is 'Digital assets and blockchain, opening the future of a new digital economy based on trust.' Ryu Chang-bo, president of the Open Blockchain Association, will deliver a keynote speech on 'The future of the digital economy opened by digital assets: directions for the development of stablecoins, STOs, and CBDCs.' Choi Sun-mi, a senior researcher at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), will present on 'The arrival of the AI and digital asset era: creating new value connected to the real economy.' Jo Won-hee, president of the Korean Blockchain Startup Association, will discuss 'New directions for digital asset and blockchain policies and the role of the industry.'
In addition, ▲ Ahn Chang-won, project manager of the National Information and Communication Planning and Evaluation Agency ▲ Park Jae-hong, president of the Korea Electric Vehicle Industry Association ▲ Kang Sung-yun, attorney at Kim & Chang Law Office ▲ Jeon Jin-young, director at Hopae, are also set to present and share their insights.
A panel discussion on the theme 'Suggestions for promoting the blockchain and digital asset industry' will also take place. Lee Hyo-jin, chair of the ABLE Advisory Committee (moderator), Park Jong-baek, attorney at BAE, KIM & LEE LLC, and Kim Jong-hwan, CEO of Blocko, will participate.
Song Sang-hun, director of the Information and Communication Policy Office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, noted, 'As we enter the age of AI and digital assets, it is crucial to shift the national strategy for the growth of the blockchain industry, the foundational technology of digital assets, and secure global competitiveness.' He added, 'The Ministry of Science and ICT will listen to the industry's opinions through ABLE in line with the government's national policy and reflect them in policies to actively support the continuous emergence and growth of innovative blockchain companies.'
