More than half of users of food delivery platforms such as Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats are engaging in ‘multi-homing’ by using two or more platforms. The proportion of those using all major platforms including Yogiyo reached 15%.
The Ministry of Science and ICT noted on the 29th that, according to a survey conducted on 2,500 food delivery platform users as part of the 2024 survey on the status of added-value telecommunications businesses, 55% of users are multi-homing across two or more platforms.
The average number of deliveries for users subscribed to a delivery service membership, for which they pay an expense, was 12.7, about double that of non-subscribers, who averaged 6.5.
On the other hand, the amount per order was similar, around 28,000 won each. The Ministry of Science and ICT estimated that membership subscribers use single deliveries more frequently and the average delivery fee was reported to be lower, suggesting that membership payments are mainly made for benefits related to delivery fees.
Meanwhile, according to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT targeting the entire added-value telecommunications industry, the total revenue of the added-value telecommunications industry last year was 2.4726 trillion won, accounting for 28.4% of total industry revenue.
Added-value telecommunications providers cited artificial intelligence (AI) technology as the most frequently used new technology for their businesses. In 2023, big data technology ranked first. Providers were utilizing AI technology primarily for enhancing existing services and developing new services.
Providers identified difficulties in securing specialized personnel with the latest technology, a lack of government support for industrial promotion, the burden of infrastructure expenses, and uncertainty due to ambiguous regulations or regulatory gaps as challenges in their business processes.
