LG Electronics announced on the 29th that the ‘LG Smart Cottage’ has become the first building in Korea to receive the highest grade of Zero Energy Buildings, ‘ZEB Plus.’ Prefabrication refers to the construction method where buildings are pre-manufactured in a factory and then transported to the site for assembly and installation.
The LG Smart Cottage is a modular dwelling that integrates LG Electronics' artificial intelligence (AI) appliances and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technology. It uses electricity for all energy needs within the dwelling and can independently produce necessary energy by installing a solar power generation system on the roof.
The LG Smart Cottage is the first prefabricated building to receive this certification in Korea. The energy production level of the LG Smart Cottage exceeded the consumption level, surpassing the first-grade standard of 100%.
LG Electronics recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation (KESCO) for 'ensuring electrical safety in modular dwellings' at the LG Smart Cottage located in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do. Attendees at the signing ceremony included Byo Jeong-jae, Director of the Business Operations Division at KESCO, and Jo Yeon-woo, representative of LG Electronics Smart Cottage.
Through this agreement, the two parties will cooperate in the establishment of the ‘Pre-Safe Certification System for Modular Dwellings,’ conducting design blueprint reviews and manufacturing site inspections to grant electrical safety certification. Previously, electrical safety inspections for prefabricated modular buildings were conducted after their installation on site; however, if problems were detected in wiring or outlets, parts of the completed building had to be demolished and reconstructed. Now, safety can be checked from the product design stage, preventing potential issues after installation, enhancing quality reliability, and streamlining unnecessary inspection procedures.
The two companies plan to first implement this system in the LG Smart Cottage to jointly develop and verify electrical safety solutions and expand its application to the modular construction market.
Meanwhile, LG Electronics has been operating an ‘Open House’ since the 28th, allowing visitors to experience and tour the LG Smart Cottage via online reservations in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do. Jo Yeon-woo, representative of LG Electronics Smart Cottage, noted, “We will lead a new change in the construction industry through the LG Smart Cottage, which provides a differentiated customer experience by merging space, appliances, and services.
