KT announced on the 26th that it has succeeded in developing and verifying artificial intelligence (AI)-based wireless network optimization technology in collaboration with Samsung Electronics. This technology allows the network to autonomously assess the situation of smartphone users and provide the optimal communication environment, heralding an era where the communication quality for smartphone users can be automatically optimized.
Developed through joint research between KT Future Network Research Institute and Samsung Research, this technology automatically applies the optimal settings by assessing individual users' signal stability and network environment in real time. It also includes a feature that learns users' movement patterns, remembers past issues, and preemptively resolves similar problems.
AI-RAN (AI-based wireless network) is a next-generation technology that enables the network to autonomously assess and adjust itself, and this research is regarded as key to securing core technology for 6G AI-native networks. KT and Samsung Electronics collected problems that occurred in actual communication networks and verified the technology's effectiveness through simulations, planning to start proof-of-concept tests in the second half of the year for application in commercial networks.
Lee Jong-sik, head of the KT Future Network Research Institute, noted, "This research concretely demonstrates the feasibility of AI-based wireless network technology," and emphasized, "We will continue to develop innovative technologies for 6G."
