The French Embassy in Korea announced that the global webtoon production company Kenaz and the Ministry of National Defense of France are co-producing the webtoon 'Crèvecœur (Director General's Ridge),' which will be exclusively released on Kakao Page on the 25th.
The webtoon 'Crèvecœur' co-produced by the webtoon production company Kenaz from Korea and the Ministry of National Defense of France captures the lesser-known story of the French battalion that fought alongside the Korean and United Nations forces during the Korean War.
The webtoon follows the journey of a South Korean soldier 'Sangbeom' assigned to the French battalion. It depicts the story of Sangbeom, a soldier from a powerless nation that experienced Japanese colonial rule, and the French soldiers stationed on Korean soil, as they share friendships beyond misunderstandings and suspicions.
The author of 'Crèvecœur,' Jang Woo-ryong, is a webtoon writer specialized in historical narratives, and has serialized works including 'General Noh Baek-rin,' part of a webtoon project featuring 100 independence activists, as well as 'Baut One,' 'The Story of That Day,' and a webtoon series covering the 16 countries that participated in the UN forces.
Pierre Morcos, the cultural attaché of the French Embassy, said, 'Crèvecœur' is a work that demonstrates how the medium of webtoons can serve as a rich platform for cultural ties and communication between France and Korea, and I am pleased that many people will be able to experience this touching story through Kakao Page, Korea's leading webtoon platform.
