Foxconn, known as the manufacturer of the iPhone, has announced its intention to transform into a foundry optimized for the AI era, moving beyond the production of artificial intelligence (AI) servers, robotics, and electric vehicles to include factory design and automation solutions. It has been reported that Foxconn will participate in the Stargate project in the U.S., which is set to inject $500 billion (approximately 682 trillion won) over four years.
According to industry sources, Foxconn has stated during a closed partner meeting that began on the 23rd (local time), "We will definitely participate in large overseas AI projects worth hundreds of billions of dollars," adding, "Production capacity is an issue because we have a large volume of orders related to AI." Taiwan Economic Daily reported that "Foxconn is expected to secure exclusive contracts for the manufacture of AI servers in the Stargate project."
Foxconn is supplying AI servers optimized for NVIDIA chips, which account for over 80% of the AI semiconductor market. Foxconn's market share in AI servers exceeds 40%. While Taiwan's TSMC produces NVIDIA chips, Foxconn manufactures the servers that incorporate them. Last year, Foxconn's revenue was 6.86 trillion New Taiwan dollars (approximately 316.8 trillion won).
In May, during the Computex 2025 exhibition in Taipei, Taiwan, Liu Yangwei, chairman of Foxconn, declared in his keynote speech that the company aims to become a manufacturing corporation optimized for the AI market by focusing on three major industries: electric vehicles, digital healthcare, and robotics, along with three core technologies: AI, semiconductors, and next-generation communication technologies.
An IT industry representative explained that "Foxconn plans to evolve from a simple manufacturing corporation to a provider of advanced manufacturing solutions such as robotics targeting the AI market," adding that the company intends to mobilize the capabilities it has built up for mega projects like Stargate.
The Stargate project aims to establish an AI corporation called 'Stargate' by investing $500 billion in the U.S., building infrastructure to support AI technologies, including AI data centers. Projects are being led by SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and others.
Foxconn is reportedly reviewing participation in a project led by Masayoshi Son (Son Jeong-ui), chairman of Japan's SoftBank Group, which calls for an investment of $1 trillion (approximately 1,471 trillion won) to establish AI industrial complexes across the U.S. The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that Son is envisioning an unmanned industrial complex comprised of factories where robots equipped with AI operate autonomously. It is known that Son plans to assign Foxconn the production of robots to be used in the industrial complex.
