Naver Cloud announced on the 23rd that it has signed a business agreement to introduce the artificial intelligence (AI) welfare phone service 'CLOVA Care Call' in Izumo City, located in Shimane Prefecture, Japan.
This collaboration aims to address the care gap in Japan's aging communities using AI technology. It also carries symbolic significance in jointly solving social issues through Korea's AI technology, marking the 60th anniversary of South Korea-Japan diplomatic relations.
Izumo City is a super-aged city where about 30% of the total population is over 65 years old. There is a shortage of support staff compared to the increasing demand for care.
'CLOVA Care Call' is a service where AI calls elderly individuals living alone and middle-aged single-person households to check on their well-being. It has already been adopted by more than half of the local governments in Korea.
The conversational AI is designed to induce emotional connection through natural and personalized interactions. If any abnormal signs are detected during the currency, it is set up to promptly connect to local relevant institutions, such as welfare workers or hospitals, to respond to crisis situations.
'CLOVA Care Call' advanced to the finals at the Digital Den Goshien competition hosted by the Cabinet Office of Japan, equivalent to the Presidential Office in Korea, in March of this year, beating out Japanese companies. It also ranked fifth overall, making it the first time a Korean corporation achieved this.
Meanwhile, Naver Cloud plans to showcase 'CLOVA Care Call' at the '2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo' in Osaka, Japan, from the 9th to the 11th of next month.
