The gaming organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel market, which grew by 132% last year, is expected to maintain its growth this year. Samsung Display and LG Display are planning to adjust their production lines to increase shipments. While global display panel companies are adjusting production capacities out of concern for tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, the gaming monitor segment continues to establish itself as a promising market.
According to industry sources on the 20th, Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to expand the shipment of OLED panels aimed at the gaming market among IT OLED panel products this year. The plan is to enhance production capacity by adjusting OLED production lines in response to demand higher than initially expected. Market research firm TrendForce recently revised its forecast for OLED monitor panel shipments this year from 2.8 million units to 3.4 million units.
As the gaming monitor market transitions from liquid crystal display (LCD) technology to OLED, major corporations in the PC industry are also promoting OLED monitors as their key products. Not only global companies like Dell and HP, but also gaming brands specialized in gaming PC equipment, such as ASUS and MSI, are heavily marketing OLED monitors. The two companies previously introduced a 27-inch quantum dot (QD)-OLED gaming monitor with a refresh rate of 500Hz at Computex in Taiwan last May.
These corporations expect the demand for OLED monitor panels to double this year, with ASUS anticipating sales to exceed 500,000 units. ASUS is actively marketing both QD-OLED monitors and white (W) OLED monitors, which is expected to benefit Samsung Display and LG Display.
Samsung Display and LG Display are also rolling out new OLED monitor products this year to match the expanded demand. Samsung Display plans to launch a 27-inch UHD OLED panel early this year, followed by a 27-inch QHD product later this year. The product line, featuring high resolution and ultra-high refresh rates, is assessed to be optimized for gaming. LG Display is building a full lineup of gaming OLED panels in various sizes, ranging from 27 inches to 31.5, 34, 39, and 45 inches, and has begun mass production of OLED monitor panels with the highest resolution in the industry.
The two companies have expressed their intent to enhance profitability with premium products that improve performance in line with the transition to OLED in the gaming monitor market. Earlier, during a first-quarter earnings conference call, Samsung Display stated, "We are expanding our product lineup not only with premium monitors featuring high resolution and ultra-high refresh rates but also into the mainstream market, and we plan to accelerate the transition to OLED technology in both B2C and B2B markets." LG Display also noted, "We will strengthen our revenue structure through the differentiation and expansion of the OLED monitor business to achieve stable performance in the medium to long term."
According to market research firm Omdia, the market for OLED monitor panels is expected to continue growing at an average annual rate of 12.3% until 2029, reaching a size of $1.088 billion (1.48 trillion won). This represents approximately 10% of the total monitor panel market.
