The greatest potential of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is that it can provide content in multiple languages in real time. Especially in the global gaming market, AI chatbots are emerging as a key strategy because they can maintain user engagement while reducing operational expense.
Kim Min-jae, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of NC AI, said this on the 20th at the 2025 Content Industry Forum held at the CKL Stage in Gwanghwamun, Seoul. On this day, under the theme 'Playing the World Beyond Boundaries', experts from the gaming industry presented and discussed strategies for the global survival of K-Games.
CTO Kim shared the status of AI utilization in gaming companies centered on the company's generative AI platform 'VARCO'. He noted, "AI is advancing to a level where it can automatically generate not only image creation but also video, sound, voice, and lip sync for the entirety of game content," and added, "AI has reached the stage where it can automatically create 3D modeling." He further stated, "This plays a critical role in reducing production time and expense, as well as enhancing the capability for multilingual content creation and global user response," and pointed out, "We are entering an era where AI functions as a primary production tool beyond just assistance in creation."
CTO Kim emphasized the importance of AI-based localization technology for global expansion and stressed the need for support for the adoption of AI technology. He said, "We are developing voice synthesis technology that can express emotions and act, beyond simple text-to-speech (TTS), and applying it to actual games," and added, "We can consistently implement the voice of the same character in four different languages." He concluded, "As China’s Tencent invests heavily in AI technology now, the government needs to support the acquisition of public AI data and practical assistance based on vouchers so that developers can utilize it freely."
Lee Min-woo, head of publishing at KRAFTON's India branch, cited the case of their 'BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India)' entering the Indian market, highlighting localization as a key element of their global strategy. He remarked, "India is a country with 22 official languages and 29 states, each possessing unique characteristics. Therefore, it is essential to emphasize localization by region rather than understanding it as one single country," and added, "KRAFTON's India branch formed a task force (TF) comprised of employees from each region and empowered them to provide locally specialized content."
Collaboration with local celebrities and influencers was particularly effective. Lee emphasized, "BGMI expanded user engagement and intimacy through extensive collaboration with a variety of local intellectual property (IP) and figures, including Bollywood stars, India's first Olympic gold medalist in athletics Neeraj Chopra, well-known movies, local energy drink and automobile brands, and popular cricket teams," and noted, "Especially, the use of voices of BGMI influencers for product sales made influencers feel a sense of belonging to the game and actively promoted it, creating a virtuous cycle of growth together."
Lee emphasized that he is striving to have a positive impact across the eSports and gaming culture in India, going beyond the simple expansion of BGMI services. He said, "India has a significant negative perception toward excessive gaming among youth, similar to South Korea in the past," and added, "To address this, BGMI implemented policies to establish a healthy gaming environment, such as OTP authentication for minors, restrictions on daily playtime and purchase amounts, and the moderation of violent elements." He further revealed, "This led to the campaign 'Responsible Play', and the campaign video received positive feedback from users, the government, NGOs, and won the Bronze Lion in the Film category at Cannes Lions 2022."
