Kakao introduced a new 'spoiler prevention' feature to KakaoTalk on the 20th.
Users can send text messages while hiding certain content through this feature. The parts designated for spoiler prevention will be concealed within KakaoTalk, including in chat rooms and chat lists, and will be delivered to the recipient unobtrusively. Notifications on external mobile devices from KakaoTalk will also display the content in a hidden manner. To view these, users need to enter the chat room and click the speech bubble. Up to 10 multiple 'spoiler prevention' zones can be set per speech bubble.
It can be used on various operating systems (OS) including Android, iPhone (iOS), and Windows in the new version of KakaoTalk (v25.5.0 or higher). It will be applied on Mac (MAC) PCs in July. Similar features have been previously introduced in other messengers such as Telegram, Discord, and Signal.
A representative from Kakao noted, 'We introduced the new feature to offer an enjoyable experience while exchanging messages in chat rooms,' adding, 'The 'spoiler prevention' feature can also be appropriately used in situations where sensitive information like addresses or account numbers needs to be shared.'
