This project marks SK Telecom's entry into the smart station project for Seoul's subway, a sector previously dominated by Samsung SDS and LG Uplus. Despite a recent cyber incident that impacted security trustworthiness, SK Telecom secured the project based on its experience in building LTE-R for the Busan subway and its track record in smart control projects. SK Telecom formed a consortium with KT and Acurity to participate as the primary and secondary contractors, respectively.
The smart station project of the Seoul Transportation Corporation aims to enhance safety by utilizing 3D maps, IoT sensors, and intelligent CCTV, while integrating management tasks at the stations. Samsung SDS has won contracts for Lines 1, 3, and 4, while LG Uplus has been awarded Lines 2, 5, and 8. This project will be implemented at 42 stations on the 7th Line between Jangam and Onsu, with SK Telecom planning to deploy a 3D integrated management system using AI and ICT technology, along with intelligent CCTV monitoring and establishing a wired network environment.
