On the 18th, LG Electronics reported that its North American headquarters has established itself as a venue for 'private technology diplomacy' that goes beyond a simple workspace to engage with the local community.
At its North American headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, LG Electronics operates a science experience center called 'LG Inspiration Lab'. To foster interest in science among local elementary, middle, and high school students, LG Electronics has designed educational programs. The 'OLED Aquarium,' made up of 32 55-inch OLED flexible signage displays, provides an experience akin to walking under the sea, where visitors can receive portraits painted by a 'robot artist' and play soccer games using robotic vacuum cleaners.
With the experience programs receiving positive feedback, the number of visitors increased from around 1,000 in 2023 to 4,000 last year, and surpassed 3,000 in the first half of this year. This place has been likened to the 'LG Science Hall,' which was once a leading youth science facility in Korea.
Communication for future talents is also active. LG Electronics holds 'LG College Day,' inviting students from prestigious local universities such as Princeton, Yale, and New York University to introduce innovative technologies, including the world's first wireless transparent OLED TV, AI Home, and robotics, and to provide mentoring. At this event, the corporate culture and vision encapsulated in the 'Life’s Good' brand slogan are also shared.
The North American headquarters is also utilized as a diplomatic platform. In January, LG Electronics, in collaboration with the Consulate General in New York, invited consuls from 10 countries, including Canada, Finland, Georgia, Japan, Pakistan, Poland, Switzerland, Thailand, the Philippines, and Turkey, to showcase its innovative technology roadmap and discuss ways to strengthen partnerships between nations. The participants showed considerable interest not only in future technologies but also in the high-efficiency, eco-friendly air conditioning system applied within the headquarters.
To protect the surrounding forests and wetlands, more than 1,500 trees were planted, and greenery was established, covering half of the total floor area of the building. As a result of implementing a high-efficiency energy system throughout the building, it received the highest rating of 'Platinum' in the 'Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)' certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
