SK Telecom urged subscribers to be cautious as phishing and smishing attempts exploiting the hacking incident have been confirmed. The official message regarding the cyber intrusion incident is sent from the number 114, and devices supporting the next-generation messaging service (RCS) will display an 'official certification mark.' It is explained that if contacted through other methods regarding the cyber intrusion incident, it is suspected to be a phishing or smishing attempt.
On the 18th, SK Telecom noted through its newsroom that "there have been some attempts to steal personal information impersonating family, government agencies, and SK Telecom," and provided guidance on spam and smishing prevention response systems.
SK Telecom has recently discovered cases where individuals approached customers via phone or text saying they would check for whether they had been hacked by SK Telecom, leading them to install remote control apps. These messages included phrases like SIM hacking or malware infection. SK Telecom stated, "Under no circumstances do we request the installation of remote control apps," and emphasized, "Such requests should be firmly rejected to prevent financial damage and other issues."
Aside from cases where SK Telecom directly sends messages to customers at stores for free SIM replacements, all guidance is unified and sent from the number '114'. Additionally, some devices have been enabled to confirm that messages sent are officially from SK Telecom via an 'official certification mark.'
SK Telecom is also operating a response system and services for cyber crimes related to service types including line activation, messaging, phone calls, and the internet. It was explained that safety is enhanced through ▲ message spam filtering ▲ blocking of voice spam and voice phishing numbers ▲ and blocking access to illegal and harmful sites.
SK Telecom stated, "Immediately after the cyber intrusion incident, we are further strengthening our crime response system to prevent spam damage," and added, "If economic damage has occurred, it is necessary to report immediately to the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Korean National Police Agency, the Financial Supervisory Service, and the Internet Damage Response Center of the Korea Internet & Security Agency."
