Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SK Group will establish a 100 MW dedicated AI data center in the Ulsan Mipo National Industrial Complex. This project is a large-scale public-private partnership investing trillions of won and is set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony in August.

The data center will be developed on a 36,000㎡ site in the Hwangseong-dong area of Nam-gu, Ulsan, and will start operation at a scale of about 40 MW by November 2027, with completion expected by February 2029 at a capacity of 103 MW. This data center will be the first in the country to be equipped with 100 MW-class dedicated GPU facilities, with approximately 60,000 GPUs to be deployed.

Ryu Young-sang, president of SK Telecom, announced plans to build an AI data center through partnerships with global big tech companies in March. Subsequently, SK Telecom, in collaboration with SK Broadband, acquired a site for the data center from SK Chemicals for approximately 28.3 billion won.

The Ulsan Mipo Industrial Complex is considered advantageous for data center operation due to its proximity to SK Gas's LNG combined heat and power plant, which facilitates power supply, and the cooling conditions utilizing LNG cold energy.
