Intellectual properties (IPs) that gained popularity in the U.S. through games and animations such as "The Witcher," "The Legend of Korra," and "Critical Role" will be reborn as webtoons.

Webtoon Entertainment, the parent company of Naver Webtoon, announced on the 10th (local time) that it plans to unveil five popular IPs as webtoons in partnership with Dark Horse Comics, a leading comic publisher in the U.S.

This project is the second collaboration following the series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," which recorded a cumulative view count of 12 million.

The works being released this time include "Critical Role: Mighty Nein Origins," based on the Dungeons & Dragons universe, and "The Legend of Korra," which expands the world of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

Additionally, Dark Horse's representative IPs, which encompass various genres such as fantasy, science fiction (SF), and games, including "The Witcher," "Plants vs. Zombies," and "Cyberpunk 2077," will be produced as webtoons.

These webtoons are expected to be released sequentially on Naver Webtoon's English platform.

Kim Yong-soo, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) of Naver Webtoon and head of global webtoon business, noted, "It is meaningful to present IPs with global fandom in webtoon format in collaboration with Dark Horse," adding that "we will continue to provide the best content experience through nurturing the creator ecosystem and expanding global IP distribution."
