KT has become the first in the country to reach a cumulative subscriber count of 10 million for its high-speed internet service.

On the 10th, KT announced an event to celebrate reaching 10 million subscribers. KT noted, "This is the result of leading the development of high-speed internet in Korea for about 30 years, starting with the launch of the country’s first commercial internet service, 'KORNET,' in 1994."

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT's '2024 Internet Usage Survey Data', 22.26 million out of a total of 22.27 million households in Korea are using wired or wireless internet. The household internet access rate stands at 99.97%. Notably, among those aged 70 and above, usage has increased by 1.7 times over the past five years, indicating that internet use has become commonplace across all age groups.

To commemorate reaching 10 million subscribers, KT will hold the 'Internet is also KT Festival' from today until August 31. For customers who have used KT's high-speed internet for more than three years and either do not have a Wi-Fi router or are using an outdated device, a 'Gigabit Wi-Fi Home Router' will be provided to those on the 'Basic (500Mbps)' plan. For those on 'Essence (1Gbps)' or higher plans, the 'Wi-Fi 7D Router' will be given for free with a three-year contract. This benefit is available for the first 50,000 applicants. Customers who have used Genie TV for over three years and are using an old set-top box will receive a free replacement with the latest Android-based set-top box, the 'Genie TV Set-top Box A,' provided they are on the 'Genie TV Slim' plan or higher.

Benefits for new customers have also been prepared. New customers subscribing to internet services of Essence (1Gbps) or higher will receive the domestic first Wi-Fi 7 standard router 'KT Wi-Fi 7D' and a home security device 'KT Home Cam Anshim' for free. Customers on the Basic (500Mbps) plan will also receive a 'Gigabit Wi-Fi Home Router' for free during the promotion period. Additionally, customers subscribing to Genie TV at Essence or higher levels concurrently will receive discounts on premium soundbar set-top boxes.

An online event that anyone can participate in, regardless of product subscription, is also being held. Customers participating in the online board game 'Chunman’s Monopoly,' set against the backdrop of unique locations across the country where KT's high-speed internet is provided, can enter to win various prizes such as hotel accommodation vouchers, iPads, AirPods, and Naver Pay. Participation in the game is available until July 10.

Lee Hyun-seok, vice president of KT, stated, "Achieving 10 million high-speed internet subscribers is a significant milestone not just for a single telecommunications company but for the history of the high-speed internet industry in Korea." He also noted, "We will continue to lead digital innovation through high-speed infrastructure and customer-tailored services, aiming to be a KT that grows together with the people."
