Samsung Electronics' foundry division is collaborating with Autotalks, an Israeli fabless company specializing in V2X (vehicle-to-everything) communications, which is a subsidiary of Qualcomm. The partnership between Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics is expanding from mobile into the automotive sector.
According to industry sources on the 10th, Autotalks reportedly visited Samsung's foundry plant in Austin, Texas, last month to conduct quality level inspections and prepare for the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). PPAP is a procedure in which quality and specifications of parts, such as semiconductors, are verified by the customer before mass production.
Founded in 2008, Autotalks is a company providing V2X solutions in the automotive field, with Qualcomm completing the final acquisition work earlier this month. Previously, the Samsung Catalyst Fund (SCF), a venture investment fund under the Samsung Semiconductor Innovation Center (SSIC), participated as a co-investor in Autotalks' effort to raise $30 million in 2017.
Autotalks' products are expected to be manufactured at Samsung Electronics' Austin facility using processes below 14 nm (nanometer, one-billionth of a meter).
