Kakao's content publishing platform 'Brunch Story' will launch a paid content subscription service next month. Kakao announced on the 10th that it is recruiting authors for the 'Brunch Author Membership' and will not charge commissions for one year.
The Brunch Author Membership is a paid subscription feature that allows readers to subscribe to their favorite authors and enjoy premium membership content provided by authors at a monthly fee of 3,900 won. It was pilot operated with about 20 representative authors from various fields, including workplace, career, branding, and insights, in the first half of this year, and is set to officially open next month.
Any author who has more than 30 Brunch subscribers and has published at least three articles within three months can apply. If selected as a membership author, they can generate revenue based on the number of paid subscribers, receiving monthly subscription fees accordingly.
Kakao stated that to enable creators to continue their creative activities more freely and stably, it will implement a '0% platform commission' policy for one year after the official launch. The plan is to support creators so that revenue generated from the Brunch Author Membership can be fully retained by the creators, thereby revitalizing the creative activity ecosystem.
Authors who achieve 100 subscribers can submit their works to more than 10 Brunch partner publishers to gain publishing opportunities. A special profile screen exclusive to membership authors will also be provided to further strengthen author branding.
According to Kakao, after the pilot operation of the Brunch Author Membership, the number of new authors increased by 82% compared to the same period last year, and the total number of articles increased by 41%.
