LG Uplus announced on the 10th that it has obtained the 'AI Management System (ISO/IEC 42001)' certification. The company noted, "This is to provide transparent and safe AI services."
'AI Management System (ISO/IEC 42001)' is a global standard developed jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), established to support organizations or corporations in systematically managing and operating AI.
LG Uplus held a certification award ceremony at its Yongsan headquarters in Seoul on the 9th. The Korean Standards Association had Chairman Moon Dong-min, along with Kim Tae-hyung, Director of Certification Headquarters, and Yoon Hyung-geun, Director of the International Certification Center, in attendance. From LG Uplus, Chief Technology Officer Lee Sang-yeop, AX Technology Group Head Jeon Byung-ki, and Data Science Lab Head Jo Hyun-cheol were present.
LG Uplus stated, "As AI technology spreads, various social and ethical issues are emerging, and governments and related organizations around the world are demanding responsible development and utilization," adding, "We acquired the AI Management System certification to meet global demands and secure customer trust."
To obtain the certification, LG Uplus applied a management system based on international standard specifications. It also established an AI risk management system that aligns with the strategies and goals of LG Group and the company. Detailed management systems that meet certification requirements, including ▲ AI management environment analysis ▲ AI risk assessment and control ▲ AI governance operational management ▲ AI performance evaluation, have also been completed.
LG Uplus plans to actively utilize this certification in the process of realizing its AI strategy '4A' announced earlier this year. The 4A strategy aims to develop an AI that starts with 'Assured' AI, offers customer-tailored (Adaptive) AI experiences, accompanies customers (Accompanied) in their daily lives, and ultimately creates a brighter world for humanity with (Altruistic) AI.
LG Uplus previously obtained ISO certifications in information security and quality. Based on this certification, the company plans to further strengthen 'AI ethics.'
Lee Sang-yeop, CTO of LG Uplus, said, "With this certification, LG Uplus has been internationally recognized for having processes in place to actively respond to AI-related issues and risks," adding, "In the future, LG Uplus will focus its technological capabilities to ensure that customers have differentiated experiences through the safest and most reliable AI."
