Nexon subsidiary Neople's labor union began a lawful struggle on the 10th in protest of the reduction in performance bonuses. Union members have decided to refuse overtime and weekend work, and have launched a full-scale protest starting with a rally in front of the headquarters in Jeju, warning of an imminent general strike if the company does not meet their demands.
The Nexon chapter of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' chemical, fiber, and food sector announced that starting today, they will hold rallies after all members leave work at 6 p.m. at the Jeju headquarters, refusing early morning work, work after 7 p.m., and weekend work as part of their lawful struggle. Members of the Seoul branch are also expected to join this effort starting on the 18th.
The union is protesting that despite the game 'Dungeon Fighter Mobile' achieving record-high sales of 1.3783 trillion won in 2024 due to its success in China, the company only paid performance bonuses (GI) to development personnel at two-thirds of the previous amount.
Accordingly, the union is demanding the payment of about 39.3 billion won as revenue distribution (PS), which corresponds to 4% of the 2023 operating profit of 98.24 billion won. In a statement, the union criticized, saying, "The company only claims a performance-linked compensation structure that pays less when revenue declines and more when it rises," adding, "It is unjust to drastically reduce incentives for new development personnel and live service personnel just because performance has decreased."
The union secured the right to strike with a vote on the 28th of last month, with 93.48% (917 members) in favor, and has since not reached an agreement with the company in the third mediation session held by the Jeju Regional Labor Relations Commission.
Chung Do-woo, the head of Neople's labor union, stated, "We began this lawful struggle to uphold our demand for the 4% PS payment, and after observing the company's attitude, if they do not accept it by the end of this month, we plan to enter a general strike."
