The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) announced on the 9th that it has opened the 'Korea-ASEAN Digital Academy' at the ICT Training Center of the Ministry of Communications and Digital in Cikarang, Indonesia.

NIPA held an opening ceremony on the 5th and officially announced the launch of a digital and artificial intelligence (AI) talent development project in Indonesia. The ceremony was attended by Kim Deuk-jung, NIPA's Vice President, Lee Jang-geun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN, Lee Sang-deok, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia, and Nezar Patria, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Digital of Indonesia.

This project was conducted as part of the 'Korea-ASEAN Digital Innovation Flagship Project (KADIF).' It is an international cooperation project supported by the Korea-ASEAN Cooperation Fund (AKCF), utilizing a total budget of $4.5 million from November 2024 to 2029.

NIPA plans to establish academies in all 10 ASEAN countries by 2029, starting with the opening of the Korea-ASEAN Digital Academy in Laos last April, including this one in Indonesia. The initiative aims to enhance the digital and AI talent of ASEAN countries and create job opportunities through employment connections.

The Korea-ASEAN Digital Academy in Indonesia will collaborate with the agency, the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Digital's Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), the Eris Group, and the Korea Standards Association to provide education to a total of 200 participants over two years, with 100 each year. Support such as employment connections, exchange days, and job training will also be offered to graduates.

Kim Deuk-jung, NIPA's Vice President, noted, “Indonesia is an area being referred to as the post-Vietnam region, where digital cooperation with Korea is expanding,” adding, “Based on this Korea-ASEAN Digital Academy in Indonesia, we plan to nurture local digital talent and expand cooperation opportunities with Korean corporations.”
